"Digimon Adventure tri. Chapter 1 - Reunion" opens a trilogy of films created in 2015 to mark the 15th anniversary of the Digimon franchise. Once again it was produced by Studio Toei ("One Piece", "Dragon Ball", "Sailor Moon") and directed by Keitarō Motonaga ("Jormungand", "School Days"). We are screening it with the familiar German voices from the original series.
The story is set six years after the events of the first Digimon season and three years after "Digimon 02". Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, TK and Kari are teenagers now and attend high school together, seemingly ordinary young people. Few of those around them know that, as DigiDestined, they once travelled into the digital world and formed bonds with digital monsters there.
Everyday life has pulled the old group apart, though: Tai plays football, Matt is on stage with his band, Mimi lives in the USA, and the gates to the Digital World have long since closed. When a Kuwagamon suddenly lays waste to Odaiba, the Digimon gradually return to their partners' sides one by one. There is no time for a relaxed reunion, however, as a powerful new enemy appears. The DigiDestined soon realise that this fight is merely the prelude to a far greater adventure, one in which the fate of their Digital World is once again at stake.
